7th National Girls Summit
On 4th Dec 2024, CEDOVIP will join the rest of the partners in participating in the 7th National Girls Summit, the event is organized by Girls Not Brides Uganda (a Ugandan Partnership to End Child marriages), under the theme. Fostering Lifelong Learning Opportunities for Girls, the event shall be held at Hotel Africana. The National Girls Summit is an initiative aimed at strengthening awareness on the urgent need
to prevent and end Child marriages and teenage pregnancies.
The National Summit is expected to attract the participation of Policymakers, advocates, NGOS/CBOS, INGOS, MDAs, Head of diplomatic missions, institutions of learning, school’s boys and girls.
As part of the 16days of Activism, CEDOVIP is excited to join the rest of the National community in highlighting the plight of child marriages and teenage pregnancies in Uganda. Child marriage violates the basic rights of girls and boys and the realization of socio-economic transformation of communities. 34% of girls in Uganda marry or enter a union before age 18 and7% marry before age 15.6% of boys
marry before age 18.
A World Bank/ICRW study estimated that ending child marriage in Uganda would generate USD 14.48 million in earnings for Ugandan women who married early. One out of five women in Uganda engage in sexual activity before age 15 64% of girls have sex before age 18. Teenage pregnancy accounts for 22.3% of school dropouts among girls aged between 14 to 18 years On a global scale, Uganda is
