The Domestic Violence Act Coalition has been at the forefront of advocacy for implementation of the Domestic Violence Act 2010 and enactment of gender responsive laws including the Sexual Offences Bill 2015. In December 2018 the Coalition through CEDOVIP was invited by the Legal and Parliamentary Affairs committee of Parliament of Uganda to make its submission on the Sexual Offences Bill that is before it for consideration for passing by the House.
During the submission the committee made request for additional information on some clauses within the bill which CEDOVIP has been working on with a select working team from other organisations. On 14th February, 2019 CEDOVIP has convened a meeting with the DVA coalition to review the draft and strategise on the next steps to ensure the committee takes up the proposals into the bill before it is tabled for the second reading any time this year.
